forgot another small thing: when you create a layer mask it should be
enabled by default (i think it is already this way but when I tried it
yesterday I have to enable it by hand) but then once it is enabled the
important thing is that, when for example painting with a brush, you
should see the changes immediately applied to the layer and not just
on mouse over… It is also true that the current behavior could be
useful in some other circumstances so maybe the best would be to have
the possibility to decide to switch between the current one and the
one I suggested.. for better explain it see this video:

..as you can see paiting with a black 100% opaque brush acts exactly
as an eraser and in “real-time”.
